HEIC is Apple's default image format used on iPhones since iOS 11. It provides 50% smaller file sizes than JPG with the same visual quality. However, HEIC is not widely supported outside of Apple devices, which is why conversion to JPG or PNG is often needed. JPG is the most widely used image format for photographs and web images. It uses lossy compression to significantly reduce file sizes while maintaining acceptable visual quality. Nearly all devices and applications support JPG natively.
